C H Muhammad Koya was the 10th chief minister of Kerala. He was one of the members to get elected from the Indian Union Muslim League. He was elected on 12th October 1979 and died on 1st December in the same year. Within a short period, he brought about small but innovative changes in society. His name has been a part of such a legacy ever since. He installed a state of the art library in the campus of the University of Calicut and also the Haji C.H Mohamed Koya College for Advanced Studies under the University of Kerala at the state capital Thiruvananthapuram. The C.H Mohammad Koya Memorial National Journalism award along with the C H Mohammad Koya trust and The Calicut Press Club is also instituted in his honor. His son, Dr.M.K.Munner, is a leading politician in Kerala under the Indian Muslim League and also an MLA in the Kozhikode South constituency.
Due to such honorable works and recognized efforts, he has initiated a scholarship to the students of Kerala who belong to the minority community. It allows the students to rise and build their confidence and also help those female students who are invariably found to be deprived in the field of education, especially those who are meritorious.
Any female student can apply to the scholarship if they are eligible to the following set of rules :
- Only the girl students who hail from the Muslim Community or Latin Catholic Community, Converted Christians are eligible.
- The student should be in a Government or Aided Institute or should have secured admission under Government quota in unaided colleges. The income limit of the family must be not more than Rs.4.5 lakhs.
Students from any range of institutes can apply to this scholarship. About 3,000 students who pursue their degree can apply. One thousand students who pursue their Post Graduate can apply. One thousand students from the Professional courses can apply. Two thousand students can apply to a Hostel Stipend which is either recognized by the Government or Is aided by it. The students who pursue their degree will receive an amount of Rs 4,000; the Post Graduates can avail up to Rs.5,000. Those who seek their professional courses can avail up to Rs.6,000, and the hostel stipend carries uptoRs.12,000. Latin Christians and Converted Christians shall be allocated about 20% of the scholarship or stipend.
Note: If any of the students have applied for both hostel stipend as well as an educational stipend, then she will obtain only either of the two. If a student applies for a hostel stipend, then she cannot apply for her educational stipend.
Girl students who have not applied in their first year of education can apply for the scholarship from their second year but will receive the money only from the year they used. The applicant should be permanently settled in Kerala and should have scored a minimum of 50% of the marks in the qualifying examination. The starting date for the scholarship falls in October and November. It is sanctioned in November or December every year. The scholarship and stipends are released only after thorough and strict verification of each of the applicants.
