CISCE Board, also known as the Council of Indian Certificate of Secondary Education often abbreviated as ICSE is a private board of education in India. ICSE provides education across all ranges starting from primary levels to senior secondary levels. ICSE board is responsible for conducting the 10th and 12th standard examinations that millions of school children take every year. It was designed to provide a general education keep in line with the recommendations provided through the New Education Policy 1986 and mostly utilizes the medium of English as its working medium. The board generally has an extensive collection of private institutions that are affiliated to this board. Private candidates are not allowed to take education and examinations from this board. One must be associated with a school to pursue further career opportunities.

The board conducts exams for the generic 10th and 12th standard examinations and has recently been planning to conduct exams from V to VII standard. ICSE board has also recently been putting a large emphasis on the need for following through a constant internal assessment plan. ICSE often includes multiple papers for the same subject as Science and the marking scheme follows the concept of taking the average of the marks obtained in both these papers. Candidates generally need to prepare for six subjects with each subject often having multiple papers. This makes the number of subjects around 11, providing the subject set that the student takes up. ICSE final results are calculated based on considering the best five marks from their list of subjects inclusive of English.

Some of the Subjects that Students face throughout the curriculum are as follows:

For classes IX and X:

  • Group 1 (Compulsory Subjects): English, second language, history/civics and geography, and science application.
  • Group 2 (Any 2/3 Subjects): Mathematics, science (physics, chemistry, and biology), economic studies, economics, environmental science, a modern foreign language, and a classical language.
  • Group 3 (Any 1 Subject): Computer applications, technical drawing, drama, art, dance, yoga, Hindustan music, Carnatic music, instrumental music, physical education, industrial applications, commercial applications.

For classes XI and XII students are allowed to choose any 6 subjects from the list of following subjects:

Compulsory English, English literature, an Indian language, a modern Indian language, classical language, history, political science, geography, psychology, sociology, economics, commerce, accounting, business studies, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, biotechnology, physical education, home science and home economics, fashion design, electronics, engineering physics, computer science, geometrical and mechanical drawing, geometrical and building drawing, art, Hindustani classical music, Carnatic music, environmental science, and socially useful productive work.
