Child Labor is any work done by the individual under the age of 18 which is abusive, cruel, offensive, exploitative, harmful, and hazardous. Child labor offenders can cause emotional and physical abuse. The child is like how a spider wraps its prey in a faux. Similarly, the offenders wrap the children in a web of luxury, ignorance, poverty, profit, and indifference.
The main cause for the arising of child labor is due to the greed, ignorance, selfishness, and indifference over the issue. The spider example is the perfect visual of what child laborers are metaphorically wrapped up in.
In the USA there is an individual who owns a $15o shoe but has no job and similarly, in Indonesia, there is an individual who works very hard in a shoe factory but has none for herself. Have we ever asked ourselves as to how the Child Labor exists?
It exists because of:
- POVERTY as poverty is a major part which goes along with child labor and is commonly found in developing countries such as China, Korea, Russia, Malaysia, Thailand, Angola, Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Burma, Ethiopia, India, Liberia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Somalia. CHILDREN BEING ORPHANED many children in developing countries lose their parents due to death, trafficking, etc. India and China are two countries with the highest amount of child laborers, increasing from 11.28 million in 1991 to 12.59 million in 2018. 122.3 million Child workers are in the Asian Pacific Region. 49.3 million In Sub-Saharan Africa and 5.7 million are working in Latin America and the Caribbean. There is a heavy focus given to the issue of Child Labor and the International Labor Organization which watches over labor standards al around the world. On their website, they have mentioned that The main aim of the ILO is to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection, and strengthen dialogue on work-related issues.
Everyone knows about the world-famous UNICEF United Nations International Childs Emergency Fund it works for the same rights as the International Labor Organization. Hey, support and motivate child survival and development, education and gender equality, children who are physically ill and need basic protection. It is our responsibility and right to take a step in such organizations that are bringing a better future for the underprivileged children. Famous celebrities who contribute their energy and time in these organizations are Aamir Khan, Tom Hiddleston, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Gigi Hadid, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Radcliffe, Demi Moore, Emily Blunt, Nicole Kidman, Prince Harry, Shakira, Taylor Swift, and Victoria Beckham.
To put an end to child labor, it is important that each and every one of us tries to make a difference. It is easier in this way that you make donations at UNICEF who rely entirely and solely on volunteers and donors. With your donation, UNICEF works to educate those children, provide medical attention, and save as many lives as possible.
