The Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT is an adaptive computer test taken for admission into graduate management programs such as MBA. GMAT is an exam that adapts to the examinee’s skill level. CAT tests are also called tailored tests. Hence, the questions one gets in GMAT are based on responses given on the previous set of questions and vary from one examiner to the other. This makes GMAT quite unpredictable and for a good reason as MBA and other management degrees require students who are capable of finding the right answers no matter what and not depend on institutions to help them out like some other entrance exams. GMAT is therefore very popularly used entrance test to many MBA schools.

GMAT can be taken up to five times per year and not more than eight times in total. Over 2 Lakh people take the test annually, and the GMAT score is valid for five years. The fee for the exam is the US $250. GMAT started when an organization that is now called the Graduate Management Admission Council began to associate with nine B-schools to set up a standardized test to help the schools select qualified applicants. It has now become the GMAT which is the most popular entrance exam for management students. GMAT tests critical thinking, qualitative and quantitative assessment, Reasoning skills, and analytical writing.
Taking the GMAT is crucial for applying to a business school and registration is the first step towards it. Registering for GMAT can be done 6 months or even 24 hours prior to the planned date. However, there may not be a lot of slots left, so it is better if one can register for the exam 2-3 months before the planned date to be safe. For registering to the GMAT, one will need to give the following information:

  • Payment Info

Educational and work histories are optional and can be filled if one chooses. There are 3 ways to apply for GMAT. One can register online, or through phone or mail. Online, one can do so by going to the site and signing up. Then, one needs to start the GMAT registration and enter all the personal details. One must verify their profile after entering the information. After this is done, one must schedule their examination and pay the fees of $250 USD.
One can also apply through phone by finding the contact information for their region as GMAT registration lines differ from region to region. One can register by mail by filling up the GMAT appointment scheduling form and pay using credit card details or a check. The address to mail to is Pearson VUE, PO Box 581907, Minneapolis, USA. These are the various ways of registering for the GMAT, which is very important and most of the time a mandatory test for applying to B-schools all over the world.
