JTET stands for Jharkhand Teachers Eligibility Test. It is conducted by the Jharkhand Academic Council to give certification and eligibility to teachers who can work in Government and private schools.

The test has two papers: Paper 1 for teachers of grades 1 to 5 and Paper 2 for teachers of grades 6 to 8. Both exams are of 2 hours each with maximum marks being 150. There are 150 questions in each paper.

Syllabus for Paper 1

  • Child development and Pedagogy: 30 marks, 30 questions
  • Language 1: 30 marks, 30 questions
  • Language 2: 30 marks, 30 questions
  • Mathematics: 30 marks, 30 questions
  • EVS (Environmental Science): 30 marks, 30 questions

Syllabus for Paper 2:

  • Child development and pedagogy: 30 marks, 30 questions
  • Language 1: 30 marks, 30 questions
  • Language 2: 30 marks, 30 questions
  • Mathematics and Science (for Mathematics and Science teachers): 60 marks, 60 questions.
  • Social Science (for Social science or Social Studies Teacher): 60 marks, 60 questions.


  • Eligibility for class 1 to 5:
  • The applicant should have passed 12th grade with at least 45% aggregate marks from a recognized school and board.
  • Applicants should have clear Senior Secondary (or an equivalent) examination with scoring at least 50% marks and completed or appearing on last semester/year of four years Bachelor of Elementary Education.
  • Applicants, who have completed Senior Secondary or (it’s equivalent) examination by with gaining 50% marks and completed or appearing in the final semester/year of 2-year Diploma in Education or Special Education, can also able to apply.

Eligibility for Class 6 to 8:

  • Applicants should have a Graduation degree or should be appearing for the last year of a two year duration B.Ed. Program.
  • They must hold a UG degree by with scoring 50% marks and completed/appearing B.Ed. Degree.
  • Applicants must have completed a Graduation degree with 50% marks and completed or appearing in a four years duration B.Sc.Ed./B.El.Ed./4 year BA.
  • Applicants who have complete Sc. (Ed.) / B.Ed. (Special Education)/ with 50% A. (Ed.) in BA or B.Sc. are eligible to apply for JAC TET.


  • Online application begins in the last week of June, and the application fee for the general category is 500 INR, and Reserved categories are 250 INR.
  • The exam will be held in August, and the result date, the final date of application, and due date to print hall ticket have not yet be declared for 2020.


  • The selection process is based purely on merit, based on the performance of the candidate in both the papers. The first paper again is for classes 1 to 5, and the second paper is for classes 6 to 8. The candidate should have scored an aggregate of 60% marks in the papers if they are from the general category, and they have to score at least 52% if they belong to a reserved category. The selected candidates are then invited for document verification after which they are given the certification. They can then work at any private or government school in Jharkhand.
