With a campus that spreads over a 75 acre land of a lush green setting, Kalyani Government Engineering College (KGEC), is one of the premier technical colleges in the country, also taken to be one the absolute bests in West Bengal. Established by the government of West Bengal in the year 1995, it serves as an autonomous body affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam University of Technology (MAKAUT) which was earlier referred to as West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT).

Because of its exceptional performance in the field of education, the institute has been ranked #10 in all India rankings of top 100 Engineering Colleges and #5 by a survey conducted under Telegraph amongst colleges in Bengal. The college is situated well within the University of Kalyani Campus, District Nadia, West Bengal at a distance of 53 km from the Sealdah Railway station (Eastern Railways) of Kolkata and is also connected via Kalyani Expressway. The nearest railway station to the College is Kalyani Ghoshpara railway station which is about 2 km away from the institute.

KGEC enjoys affiliations and accreditations from the All India Council for technical education (AICTE), University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Human Resource Department, and the Ministry of Higher Education Department of the State.

A state of the art infrastructure works along with a semester-based academic calendar in offering B.tech courses in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology; and M.tech degrees in production engineering, mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, electronic and communication engineering and computer science engineering. The MCA department has acquired much attention because of its finesse in imparting a well-devised course in computer application. The admission of applicants rests on their meritorious performance in WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination). Significant companies like Commins India, TCS, Hindustan Unilever, Cap Gemini, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Oracle, DDT, Kreeti, M N Dastur, Bengal Beverages, and JP Research participate in recruiting students into their firms every year.

To add more feathers on its hat, KGEC is linked with many student associations like Computer Society of India, Linux Users Group and Code chef Student Chapter and is equipped with 50 labs and 10 research facilities, numerous clubs catering to all kinds of interests and a KGEC library which is fully automated stacked with e-journals, e-books, and e-databases.
