KVPY stands for Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana. Well, that’s a mouthful. This KVPY is an Aptitude Test which is conducted by IISc, Bangalore. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide funds to all of the deserving candidates and encourage them towards the science streams.
The students are categorized into three groups
The online application for this starts in July and ends in August. The aptitude test will be in November, and the results will be announced in December. The final interview round will be in January. The final selected student’s list will be announced soon after that.
The KVPY scholarship can be offered only to those students who have an interest in pursuing the following courses: B.Sc, B.S, B.Stat, B.Math, Int.M.Sc, Int.M.S. Several mock test papers can also available in the official website.
Now for the eligibility criteria :
SA category :
The students of class 11 who have taken science as their main subjects during the academic year 2018-2020 are eligible. The student must have a minimum aggregate of 75% ( 65% in case of SC/ST/PWD) in Maths and Science in their class 10th
The students must only apply for the science streams in their Under Graduation streams in the courses mentioned above for the academic year 2020-2021.
The student must have a minimum aggregate of 60% in their class 12 or any other equivalent board exams.
During this one year, the student will be invited to the National science camp, and their expenses will be covered by KVPY (Hospitality and travel expenses).
SX Category :
The students of class 12 who have taken science as their main subjects during the academic year 2018-2020 are eligible.
The student must have a minimum aggregate of 75% ( 65% in case of SC/ST/PWD) and 60% aggregate in Maths and Science in their class 10th
The students must only apply for the science streams in their Under Graduation streams in the courses as mentioned above in the academic year 2020-2021
The students of Cambridge International Examination Board who are in their 2nd year and are aspiring to join in the Basic Sciences as mentioned above in the academic year 2018-2020 must have an aggregate of 75% (65% for SC/ST.PWD)marks in aggregate of maths and science in their class 10
The student must have an aggregate of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) in their class 12.
SB Category :
The students who are in their first year of Graduation in the fields of Basic Science must have scored a minimum of 60% in their first annual exam or any equivalent grade.
The student would have to apply online in the official website portal. Be sure to enter all of your details carefully and genuinely. You will then be given an admit card. An application fee of Rs.1000 has to be paid towards the application.
The SA/SX/SB students during the 1st three years can avail the scholarship amount of Rs.5,000 and an annual contingency of Rs.20,000. The SA/SX/SB during their M.Sc/ 4th to 5th year will receive an amount of Rs.7,000 per month and a yearly emergency of Rs.28,000.
The selection process of selection is through an aptitude exam through which the students shall be filtered. The filtered students would have to attend a personal interview round. The final selected students’ names will be displayed according to their category.
The syllabus is not exactly determined, but it mainly consists of the maths and science syllabus from class 10 onwards. There are various examination centers for which the students throughout India can attempt. There is a minimum of One center from each state. The marking scheme is +1 for every correct answer and -0.25 for every wrong answer in the PART “ A section and +2 for every correct answer and -0.5 for every wrong answer in the PART-B section.
