As a result of these interventions, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council were set up in 1994, functioning as an independent body of the University Grants Commission. The NAAC functions through two of its branches: one being the General Council and the other being Executive Committee. These councils are comprised of education administrators, policymakers, and senior academicians from every possible sphere of Indian education scenario. The chairperson of the University Grants Commission presides as the president of the General Council whereas the president of the Executive Council is a reputed academician with extensive experience who is nominated by the president of the General Counsel. The director and academic head of the NAAC is the member secretary of both the General Counsel and as well as the Executive Council.
The main role that NAAC provides is the guidelines and set of rules that make it much easier when it comes to quality control in front of the education industry. With extensive developments being done in the field of education, thousands of private and public organizations are opening up centers of their own and these require a set of working conditions and requisites that would ensure a proper standard of education for the county’s millions who are part of this web. With massive competition being faced on the international front where countries like China have started to up their game when it comes to outsourcing of talent, it is extremely important for India to make the best of its available opportunities.
